Englische Version
Suzukien in Asakusa
When I’m in Asakusa, I don’t only visit Sensō-ji or walk through Nakamise-dori – sometimes I also stop for matcha. Suzukien is one of those places that is especially well known among matcha lovers. Everything here is centered around rich green tea flavor, from gelato to drinks and small sweets. During my visits, I tried several things, including the famous Matcha Gelato No. 7, green tea with Sango Mochi, and later also matcha with ume.

My visit to Suzukien
Suzukien is located in Asakusa and is especially known for its matcha specialties. Even from the outside, you can immediately tell that tea is the focus here. Inside, you can find different matcha gelato levels, drinks, and seasonal or decorative sweets. If you enjoy matcha, it’s a lovely place to take a short break between sightseeing stops and temple visits.
The famous Matcha Gelato No. 7
The absolute highlight for me was definitely Matcha Gelato No. 7. This strongest matcha level is intense, slightly bitter, and much stronger than regular matcha ice cream. That is exactly what makes it so special. If you expect a sweet and mild matcha flavor, this one may surprise you – the tea flavor is really the main focus here. For matcha fans, it is definitely an interesting experience.

Green tea and Sango Mochi
During another visit, I had green tea and Sango Mochi. The combination was not only visually beautiful, but also made for a lovely little break. The green tea was simple and pleasant, while the colorful decoration of the Sango Mochi immediately caught my attention. This is something I really love in Japan – even small sweets often look beautifully made.

Matcha with ume
I also tried matcha with ume on a later visit. This combination was especially interesting to me because the fresh matcha flavor meets the fruity and slightly unusual ume note. If you enjoy trying new flavor combinations, this is definitely an interesting choice. I always like it when places like Suzukien offer not only classics, but also something a little different.

My conclusion
Suzukien is a lovely stop in Asakusa whenever I’m in the mood for matcha. The Matcha Gelato No. 7 especially stayed in my memory because it was truly intense and very different from regular matcha ice cream. But the green tea with Sango Mochi and the matcha with ume also made the visit special. If you like matcha and are spending time in Asakusa, this place is definitely worth a stop.
