Während meiner Irlandreise 2022 habe ich in Mallow einen kleinen Markt entdeckt, der genau meinem Geschmack entspricht: den Mallow Farmers Market.
Ich mag kleine Wochenmärkte besonders gern, weil man dort häufig regionale und handgemachte Produkte direkt von den Herstellern kaufen kann. Der Markt in Mallow findet auch heute noch am Freitagvormittag statt und bietet unter anderem Lebensmittel und handgemachte Produkte verschiedener lokaler Anbieter.
Kleine Marktstände mit viel Auswahl
Bei meinem Besuch 2022 war ich ziemlich früh dort, sodass noch nicht alle Stände aufgebaut waren. Trotzdem habe ich einige schöne Anbieter entdeckt und natürlich auch etwas eingekauft.
Besonders gefallen hat mir ein Stand mit verschiedenen selbstgemachten Salaten. Mein Bruder entschied sich für einen Kartoffelsalat, während ich einen Salat mit Butternut-Kürbis und Spinat mitnahm.
Beide schmeckten uns gut, mein Favorit war aber eindeutig die Variante mit Kürbis und Spinat.
Selbstgemachte Marmelade
Ein weiterer Stand verkaufte selbstgemachte Marmeladen in verschiedenen Sorten. Bei meinem Besuch nahm ich unter anderem Plum & Apple und Rose Geranium mit.
Gerade solche Produkte mag ich auf kleinen Märkten besonders gern, weil sie etwas sind, das man nicht einfach überall im Supermarkt findet.
Glutenfreies Brot vom deutschen Bäcker
Eine für mich besonders interessante Entdeckung war damals ein deutscher Bäcker auf dem Markt.
Bei meinem Besuch 2022 bot er auch glutenfreies Brot an. Das hat mich natürlich sofort interessiert. Das Brot war schön fluffig und geschmacklich deutlich besser als viele glutenfreie Brote, die ich bis dahin kannte.
Ich nahm deshalb direkt zwei Brote mit und fror sie später zu Hause ein.
Wichtig: Das beschreibt meine persönliche Erfahrung von 2022. Der Farmers Market besteht weiterhin, aber ich konnte nicht verlässlich bestätigen, ob derselbe Bäcker heute noch dort verkauft oder weiterhin glutenfreies Brot anbietet. Bei Zöliakie würde ich deshalb vor Ort immer direkt nach Zutaten, Herstellung und möglicher Kreuzkontamination fragen.
Aktuelle Informationen zum Markt nennen weiterhin unter anderem Brot und Backwaren als Teil des Angebots, machen jedoch keine verlässliche Aussage über speziell glutenfreies Brot.
Handgemachte Seife
Neben Lebensmitteln gab es bei meinem Besuch auch handgemachte Produkte. An einem Seifenstand entdeckte ich verschiedene handgefertigte Seifen.
Ich entschied mich für eine Seife, die mich mit ihren Blau- und Türkistönen an das Meer erinnerte. Dazu gab es ein kleines Seifensäckchen aus Wolle, das man direkt beim Duschen verwenden konnte.
Lohnt sich der Mallow Farmers Market?
Für mich war der Farmers Market eine schöne Ergänzung zu meinem Aufenthalt in Mallow. Er ist kein riesiger touristischer Markt, sondern eher ein kleiner lokaler Wochenmarkt – und gerade das fand ich sympathisch.
Wenn du sowieso in Mallow bist und gerne regionale Lebensmittel und handgemachte Produkte entdeckst, würde ich am Freitagmorgen einmal vorbeischauen.
Der Markt wird auch 2026 weiterhin freitags veranstaltet. Da sich Uhrzeiten, Standorte und Händler ändern können, würde ich vor einem Besuch trotzdem noch einmal die aktuellen Informationen des Marktes prüfen.

During my trip to Ireland in 2022, I discovered a small market in Mallow that was exactly the kind of place I enjoy visiting: Mallow Farmers Market.
I have always liked small local markets because they are a great place to discover regional and handmade products directly from local producers.
The market is still running today on Friday mornings and offers a selection of food and handmade products.
Small local stalls
I arrived quite early during my visit in 2022, so not every stall had been set up yet. Even so, I found several lovely vendors and bought a few things to take home.
One of my favourite discoveries was a stall selling homemade salads. My brother chose a potato salad, while I tried a salad with butternut squash and spinach.
Both were very good, but the butternut squash and spinach salad was definitely my favourite.
Homemade jam
Another stall sold a variety of homemade jams.
During my visit, I tried flavours including Plum & Apple and Rose Geranium.
Products like these are one of the reasons I enjoy small local markets so much. You can often find something different from the products you would normally see in a supermarket.
Gluten-free bread
One particularly interesting discovery for me was a German baker who had a stall at the market.
During my visit in 2022, gluten-free bread was available. The bread was fluffy and tasted much better than many gluten-free breads I had tried before.
I liked it so much that I bought two loaves and froze them when I got home.
Please note: This was my personal experience in 2022. Although Mallow Farmers Market is still running, I could not reliably confirm whether the same baker still attends or whether gluten-free bread is currently available. If you have coeliac disease, always ask directly about ingredients, preparation and possible cross-contamination.
Handmade soap
The market was not only about food. I also found a stall selling handmade soaps in different varieties.
I chose a beautiful soap in shades of blue and turquoise that reminded me of the sea. It also came with a small wool soap bag that could be used in the shower.
Is Mallow Farmers Market worth visiting?
For me, the market was a lovely addition to my stay in Mallow.
It is not a huge tourist market. Instead, it feels like a small local weekly market, which was exactly what I enjoyed about it.
If you are already visiting Mallow and enjoy discovering regional food and handmade products, it is worth stopping by on a Friday morning.
As opening times and vendors can change, I recommend checking the latest information before your visit.
