Asakusa gehört zu den Orten in Tokyo, mit denen ich besonders viele schöne Erinnerungen verbinde. Umso passender war es für mich, dass mein erstes professionelles Kimono-Fotoshooting mit InKimono genau dort stattfand.
Das Shooting war 2019. Ich wollte dabei nicht einfach nur für ein paar Fotos einen Kimono tragen, sondern ein Styling, bei dem Kimono, Obi und Accessoires wirklich aufeinander abgestimmt werden.
Genau darauf ist InKimono spezialisiert: individuelle Kimono-Stylings, professionelles Ankleiden und anschließend ein Fotoshooting in Asakusa. Auch heute befindet sich das InKimono-Studio weiterhin in Asakusa.
Mein Kimono-Styling
Für das Shooting trug ich einen kräftig blau-violetten Kimono mit weißen und roten Blüten.
Dazu wurde ein heller Obi mit zarten rosa und grünen Mustern kombiniert. Besonders schön finde ich rückblickend, wie gut die Farben miteinander harmonieren, ohne dass das Outfit zu einheitlich wirkt.
Auch die Frisur wurde passend dazu gestaltet und mit Blütenschmuck ergänzt.
Bei InKimono ist genau diese individuelle Zusammenstellung auch heute noch ein wichtiger Teil des Konzepts. Die Outfits werden anhand persönlicher Wünsche, Stil, Jahreszeit und Anlass zusammengestellt; laut InKimono werden Kombinationen grundsätzlich nicht einfach für den nächsten Gast wiederholt.
Fotos zwischen Schrein und moderner Großstadt
Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass wir nicht nur an einem einzigen klassischen Japan-Motiv fotografiert haben.
Ein Teil der Fotos entstand rund um einen kleinen Schrein. Mit Torii, Kitsune-Statuen, viel Grün und dem traditionellen Schirm wirkt dieser Teil der Serie fast so, wie man sich ein klassisches Kimono-Shooting vorstellt.
Danach wechselte die Atmosphäre komplett.
Wir fotografierten auch mitten auf den Straßen von Asakusa – zwischen Fahrrädern, Verkehrsschildern, Taxis und ganz normalen Wohnhäusern.
Gerade dieser Kontrast gefällt mir heute besonders gut. Kimono gehört schließlich nicht nur in historische Kulissen. Auf diesen Bildern trifft traditionelle Kleidung ganz selbstverständlich auf das moderne Tokyo.
Asakusa als Kulisse
Dass das Shooting in Asakusa stattfand, machte es für mich zusätzlich besonders.
Auf einem der Bilder sieht man im Hintergrund sogar den Tokyo Skytree. Gleichzeitig wirkt die Straße selbst überhaupt nicht wie eine inszenierte Touristenkulisse – es ist einfach ein ganz normaler Teil des Viertels.
Genau solche Bilder mag ich: Sie zeigen Japan nicht nur über die bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten, sondern verbinden sie mit dem normalen Stadtbild.
Mein Lieblingsdetail: die Telefonzelle
Eines der ungewöhnlichsten Motive entstand an einer japanischen Telefonzelle.
Der kräftig blaue Kimono, das Grün des Telefons und die urbane Umgebung ergeben zusammen ein Foto, auf das ich selbst wahrscheinlich nie gekommen wäre.
Genau solche unerwarteten Orte machten das Shooting für mich interessanter als eine Reihe klassischer Posen vor derselben Kulisse.
InKimono heute
Seit meinem Shooting 2019 hat sich InKimono weiterentwickelt.
InKimono hat heute ein eigenes Studio in Asakusa und bietet professionelle Kimono-Stylings und Fotoshootings an. Zum Angebot gehören unter anderem das vollständige Kimono-Outfit, professionelles Ankleiden, Hairstyling, eine Erklärung zum getragenen Kimono und ein professionelles Fotoshooting.
Inzwischen gibt es außerdem unterschiedliche Angebote für Einzelpersonen, Paare und Familien sowie Furisode-, Hakama- und formelle Kimono-Shootings. InKimono weist ausdrücklich darauf hin, dass das Angebot kein schnelles Kimono-Rental ist, sondern ein individuell gestaltetes professionelles Erlebnis.
Mein Fazit
Mein Shooting mit InKimono gehört auch Jahre später zu meinen liebsten Kimono-Erinnerungen aus Tokyo.
Ich mochte besonders, dass wir ganz unterschiedliche Seiten von Asakusa genutzt haben: den kleinen Schrein und traditionelle Elemente genauso wie Taxis, Telefonzellen und normale Straßen.
Dadurch entstanden nicht einfach nur Bilder von mir in einem Kimono, sondern eine Fotoserie, die für mich sehr viel von dem verbindet, was ich an Tokyo mag: Tradition und modernes Stadtleben direkt nebeneinander.
Und dass das Ganze in Asakusa stattfand, macht die Fotos für mich bis heute noch einmal besonderer.

Kimono Photoshoot in Asakusa with InKimono – My Experience
Asakusa is one of the places in Tokyo that holds many special memories for me. So it felt particularly fitting that my professional kimono photoshoot with InKimono took place there.
My photoshoot was in 2019.
I did not simply want to rent a kimono for a few photographs. What interested me was a complete styling where the kimono, obi and accessories were carefully coordinated.
That is exactly what InKimono specialises in: personalised kimono styling, professional dressing and portrait photography in Asakusa. InKimono is still based in Asakusa today.
My Kimono Styling
For the shoot, I wore a beautiful blue-purple kimono decorated with white and red flowers.
It was combined with a pale obi featuring soft pink and green details, as well as floral hair accessories.
Looking back, I still love how all of the colours worked together without making the outfit feel too coordinated.
Personalised styling remains an important part of the InKimono concept today. Outfits are selected according to personal style, requests, season and occasion.
From Shrines to Modern Tokyo Streets
One of the things I enjoyed most about the photoshoot was the variety of locations.
Some photographs were taken around a small shrine with torii gates, fox statues, greenery and a traditional Japanese umbrella.
Others were taken on ordinary streets in Asakusa, surrounded by bicycles, road signs, taxis and residential buildings.
I particularly like this contrast today.
Kimono does not only belong in historic settings. In these photographs, traditional clothing becomes part of modern Tokyo.
Asakusa as a Backdrop
Having the photoshoot in Asakusa made the experience even more special for me.
One photograph even features Tokyo Skytree in the background, while the surrounding street still feels like an ordinary neighbourhood rather than a staged tourist location.
These are exactly the kinds of Tokyo photographs I enjoy most: familiar landmarks mixed with everyday city life.
An Unexpected Telephone Booth
One of the most unusual locations was a Japanese telephone booth.
The vivid blue kimono, green telephone and urban surroundings created a combination I would probably never have thought of myself.
Unexpected locations like this made the shoot much more interesting to me than simply repeating traditional poses against the same background.
InKimono Today
InKimono has developed considerably since my photoshoot in 2019.
Today, it operates its own studio in Asakusa and continues to offer personalised kimono styling and professional photography. Current experiences include a complete authentic kimono outfit, professional dressing, hairstyling, information about the kimono and a professional photoshoot.
Several different plans are now available, including individual, couple and family shoots as well as Furisode and Hakama experiences.
My Verdict
Even years later, my photoshoot with InKimono remains one of my favourite kimono memories from Tokyo.
I particularly loved how we used completely different sides of Asakusa: traditional shrine settings as well as taxis, telephone booths and ordinary city streets.
The result was not simply a collection of photographs of me wearing kimono. For me, the images capture something I particularly love about Tokyo – tradition and modern city life existing side by side.
