heute möchte ich von meinen Zugfahrten von Dublin nach Mallow berichten. Die meisten werden sicher nur den Schnellbus kennen, der entweder von Dublin Airport oder von der Dublin Innenstadt nach Cork runterfahren. Ich habe mich diesmal, aufgrund von Corona-Situation gegen den Bus entschieden, denn man sitzt dort doch etwas sehr eng aneinander. Deswegen habe ich den Zug ausprobiert. Der Zug fährt in Dublin von der Heusten Station, was sehr praktisch ist, wenn man vorher oder nachher noch ein paar Tage in Dublin verbringen möchte. Um zur Heusten Station zu kommen, habe ich einen Schnellbus genommen, der mehrere Haltestellen in Dublin anfährt und auch bei der Heusten Station Halt macht. Der war abends um 19 Uhr zum Glück sehr leer, wir waren gerade mal 10 Fahrtgäste. Ungefähr nach 30 Minuten Fahrt, kam der Bus an der Heusten Station an. Da mein Bruder mir vorab Online ein Ticket gekauft hatte, musste ich am Automaten nur meinen Buchungscode eingeben und habe direkt mein Ticket bekommen. Man kann Online auch einen Sitzplatz reservieren, wo dann über den Sitz entweder der Name oder die Buchungsnummer angezeigt wird. Man kann selber aussuchen, was angezeigt werden soll. Da derer Zug von Dublin aus startet, kann man schon ungefähr 20 Minuten eher seinen Wagon suchen und einsteigen. Was sehr praktisch ist, wenn man Gepäck dabei hat. Der Zug ist sehr hellbeleuchtet und bietet viele Sitzplätze, viele mit eigenen Tischen. Man kann den Koffer entweder an einem Ende des Wagons in die Kofferablage legen oder zwischen die Sitze. Dort sind kleine Lücken, in die man sein Gepäck reinschieben kann. Was sehr angenehm ist, dass es Steckdosen an jedem Sitz gibt und auch WLAN ist im ganzen Zug kostenlos. Man kann zwischen 1. Klasse und 2. Klasse wählen, der Unterschied ist, das die Sitze in der ersten Klasse etwas bequemer sind, und auch am Tisch eine kleine Lampe ist.
Ebenso besitzt die erste Klasse eine größere Toilette. Nach ungefähr 2 ½ Stunden kam ich dann entspannt in Mallow an. Zurück bin ich auch mit dem Zug gefahren von Mallow nach Dublin. Diesmal habe ich die 1. Klasse genommen und mir einen Sitzplatz direkt bei der Gepäckablage gebucht. So hatte ich meinen Koffer immer gut im Blick, denn sie sind nicht versichert. In Mallow hat man nicht so viel Zeit zum Einsteigen, da Mallow ein Zwischenstopp ist und man dort nur ein paar Minuten Zeit hat. Zum Glück hatte mir der Schaffner geholfen, mein Gepäck schnell einzuladen. Die Fahrt nach Dublin betrug wieder 2 ½ Stunden und war in der 1. Klasse sehr angenehm, weil die ganze Atmosphäre etwas ruhiger war als in der 2. Klasse. Der Preisunterschied beträgt 10 Euro. In Dublin kann man sich den Kofferwagen kostenlos nehmen, um so sein Gepäck zu transportieren.
Ich selber muss sagen, dass ich das Zugfahren, dem Bus doch vorziehe, weil ich es einfach entspannter ist und man immer sein Gepäck im Blick hat. Beim Bus wird das Gepäck nach unten in den Kofferraum des Buses geladen und die Passagiere steigen aus und sagen, welcher Koffer ihrer ist und bekommen ihn dann. Da kann es schon einmal zu Verwechslungen kommen. Außerdem benutzen in Irland wenige Leute den Zug und es gibt mehr Plätze, was bedeutet, dass weniger Passagiere an Board sind und man mehr Platz hat. Auch die Sitze finde ich im Zug bequemer und ein Toilettenbesuch ist im Zug angenehmer.
Train travel Dublin -> Mallow (Cork)

Today I would like to report on my train journeys from Dublin to Mallow. Most will probably only know the express bus that goes down to Cork from either Dublin Airport or Dublin city center. This time I decided against the bus due to the Corona situation, because you sit very close to each other. That’s why I tried the train. The train leaves Dublin from Heusten Station, which is very useful if you want to spend a few days in Dublin before or after. To get to Heusten Station, I took an express bus that makes several stops in Dublin and also makes a stop at Heusten Station. Fortunately, it was very empty at 7 p.m., we were just 10 passengers. After about 30 minutes of driving, the bus arrived at the Heusten station. Since my brother had bought me a ticket online in advance, I just had to enter my booking code at the machine and got my ticket straight away. You can also reserve a seat online, where either the name or the booking number is displayed over the seat. You can choose what should be displayed. Since their train starts from Dublin, you can find your wagon and get on about 20 minutes earlier. This is very useful when you have luggage with you. The train is very brightly lit and has plenty of seats, many with their own tables. You can either put the suitcase in the luggage rack at one end of the wagon or between the seats. There are small gaps in which you can put your luggage. It is very pleasant that there are sockets at every seat and WiFi is free throughout the train. You can choose between 1st class and 2nd class, the difference is that the seats in the first class are a little more comfortable and there is also a small lamp at the table.
The first class also has a larger toilet. After about 2½ hours I arrived relaxed in Mallow. I also took the train back from Mallow to Dublin. This time I took 1st class and booked a seat right next to the luggage rack. So I always had a good view of my suitcase, because you are not insured. In Mallow you don’t have that much time to board as Mallow is a stopand you only have a few minutes there. Fortunately, the conductor helped me load my luggage quickly. The drive to Dublin again took 2 ½ hours and was very pleasant in 1st class because the whole atmosphere was a little quieter than in 2nd class. The price difference is 10 euros. In Dublin you can take the luggage trolley for free to transport your luggage.
I myself have to say that I prefer the train to the bus because it’s more relaxed and you always have your luggage in view. On the bus, the luggage is loaded down into the trunk of the bus and the passengers get out and say which suitcase is theirs and then get it. This can lead to mix-ups. Also in Ireland fewer people use the train and there are more seats, which means there are fewer passengers on board and you have more space. I also find the seats more comfortable on the train and using the toilet on the train is more pleasant.
